Because I knit him a scarf. A scarf! The most boring thing to knit ever invented. A knitting staple that I have knit very rarely, because I find it so deadening to knit one thing for inches and inches and inches, with no shaping or changes.

But there must be something different about knitting a scarf as a surprise for someone who adores you—and who you’re awful smitten with—because I loved knitting this scarf from start to finish.

Scrunchable Scarf
Yarn: Moda Vera “Precious” (95% wool, 5% cashmere)
Balls: 7
Purchased at: Spotlight craft store in Plaza Singapura in Singapore
Needles: US 5 Addi Turbos
Width: About 6″
Length: About 56″
Started: early Jan, in other incarnations, but for reals with this pattern Thursday January 15, 2009
Completed: Friday, January 23, 2009
Notes: Not much to say, other than that I love the way this scarf is reversible and completely mindless to knit. I love the look of garter rib, so this sort of has that effect (but is reversible). I want to knit one for myself in another color! Here’s hoping he likes it, too.

Not only didja knit a scarf, but a scarf in garter rib. Oh wait, you’re one of those crazy ‘loves the garter rib’ types, aren’t ya.

    Nice lookin’ scarf and recipient!

Ah, he’s too cute (especially that dimple)! I can see why he’s fun to knit for. I’ve been planning to make it forever, but I can’t drag myself away from sweaters. I probably should get on it before scarf weather is gone…

He looks very handsome it! And 5% cashmere? If it were me, that would really be saying something, in addition to knitting the most boring garment ever invented!

Knitting long rectangles kills a part of my soul with every stitch, too

He looks like he loves it! He hangs with enough crafty types round flickr to have a good idea of the work it took :)

I’m seconding everyone who loves that smile of his! You are one lucky duck. But then again, so is he….finding someone to make a scarf that perfect for him.

Soooo cute. I love this little sequence of pictures so much. But wait. Why didn’t you include that one of you smashing the snow in his face? :)

Hi, I have been a “lurker” for ages; I love reading your blog. I just wanted to let you know that I mentioned/awarded you a “Creative Blogger Award” over on my blog. There really is no pressure to pass it on if you want to skip! (Hi, I have been a “lurker” for ages; I love reading your blog. It’s gorgeous and what a handsome scarf wearer. I am totally with you on scarves being boring to knit and yet they are one of the nicest things to wear.

  9. Ell says:

Too cute. I find scarves boring as well, but so gratifying when they’re done, because I have a warm neck – yay! I love how this one turned out – color, knit, all!

That grin is pretty adorable too. :D

Wish I could also say “they’re so easy I get bored”. I have not quite reached that point. Yet. And that scarf looks awesome but you know that already. :-)
