blast from the craft past
Check out the crafty goodness I found at my parents’ place this past weekend! I was finishing up the sort/purge of my old bedroom, before my parents move to Singapore, and came upon a bag of stuffed animals.

Guess what I discovered? My blogiversary was, um, back in May. May 30. I had it in my head that the anniversary was in July! The purchase of pepperknit.com does date to July, but I didn’t even debut the new blog until August. So . . . no excuses, I missed my blogiversary, plain and simple. It’s now been two-plus years. In some ways it doesn’t seem like that long, and yet it feels as if I’ve been at it forever–can’t imagine my life without it.
Knitting, however. . . . I have not been knitting. Is it because it’s summer? Or something else? I don’t know, but though I tote unfinished socks around in my bag every day, I don’t add to the number of stitches. I’ve been busy, and that definitely gets in the way, and I’ve been Flickring, which is a time-suck beyond all others. Oh, and I’ve been fantasizing about these . . .
I’ve got a new blog for you all to check out. Feed Dog. It’s pretty new, but I can vouch for the proprietor: impeccable sense of style and a good writer, to boot. Go send him some love, and watch for all the cool things he’s going to do! I can’t tell you how much his real-life influence (coupled with Ashley‘s virtual influence) has me wanting to make a quilt!
I’m filing this under “oddities” because it makes me giggle to do so. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it, too.
Part of my New Year’s resolution to dress more nicely means that I need to get my nice clothing into shape. For example, the hem on a simple black skirt that I really like has fallen, and I really need to fix it.
Now, I’m perfectly capable of sewing it back up. I can do a blind-stitch hem pretty well. But this involves clearing the desk in the guest room, setting up the sewing machine, the whole shebang. Isn’t there an easier way?? I asked. And then I realized there’s this double-sided fabric magic that will bond a hem with no seams to see or needles to thread. Just the ironing board and an iron. I can do that.
I actually just hemmed two pairs of pants. Let’s all take a moment, please. It’s a momentous occasion.
Sewing and I are not best friends. Jaax and I took a class a few years ago, learned how to make some things, but my sewing machine and I were never in love. I tried to make some dresses, but the whole cutting thing was too intimidating. Unlike knitting, you kind of have to get it exactly right or the pieces won’t line up.
