from TNNA to YMN

Whew! 2011 has been nonstop, I tell you, NONstop. My new job means a lot more business travel—and a lot more yarny fun—but it has also meant a lot less blogging. And, actually, a lot less knitting, but I can’t actually blame the job. If ever a job inspired you to knit more, it’s this one! But I did knit something so far this year, and because I began it at TNNA and finished it at my most recent conference, well, it gives me a good excuse to finally wrap up all the events of the year so far into one mega-blogpost!

happy thanksgiving!!

thanksgiving!

It’s no surprise that Thanksgiving—a holiday devoted to food, at which I am the only one to receive presents—is my most favorite. In high school and college my parents and I always celebrated as a nuclear family, doing a full meal for just the three of us, which meant lots of yumminess and even more leftovers. After college I started cooking this meal with a close group of my dearest friends, rotating hosting and experimenting with somewhat nontraditional but still seasonal fare. Of late, I’ve been staying in New York, at a gathering of “strays.”  The past two years the fabulous Lindsay hosted, but I was in charge of the turkey and gravy. She moved to Beirut this past summer, which means everyone’s coming to our place, plus a few new faces!

Three! Three!

birthday!

Today is my birthday! and I am tickled that I am a multiple of 11 again. I don’t know why, but this seems special to me. Every time I mention it to Jason, he looks at me funny, like this could not possibly be a reason to like an age. But I keep saying “Dude! 33! Three! Three!” I love the rhythm of it. It’s way better, after all, than being a boring 32.

Rhinebeck!

rhinebeck!

I slept for twelve hours last night, but I think I’ve now recovered from my first full workweek at the new job, and the adventure that was Rhinebeck yesterday! Holly, Tania, and I drove up for the day on Saturday and got to pet a lot of yarn, almost get run over by a llama, say hi to a ton of old friends (some for the first time!), take in the fall foliage, and even sample some tasty noms.

shiny and new!

Check it out, guys! Pepperknit is brandy-new, with a fancypants custom site design made for me by the talented designer Jason Krieger. Who happens to be my boyfriend, which means that this project was a labor of love. Emphasis on labor! My new logo was designed by designer Amy Sly a while back, but I never had a site to really go with it. I’m thrilled that I finally do!

We moved things around, as you have noticed, so your old rss feed and links are now out of date. It’s just a little step that I hope you won’t mind taking, to update your blog reader or bookmark so that you come to pepperknit.com directly instead of pepperknit.com/blog.

The sidebar is cleaned up, but don’t worry—all the old content is still here. Patterns are still here (and also easily available through Ravelry). There’s content yet to come—like more book reviews, more recipes, and, of course, lots more crafting. You can see all the posts on the home page, but if you click any of the categories you can filter the posts you see if you want—maybe you’re not a crafter and only want to see food posts. So click on “food,” and look along the top of the page, where you can further break it down into “cooking” and “eating” (where cooking is stuff I make myself and eating is consuming stuff professionals make!). The same goes for “crafts,” too, with the breakdown into my various crafting pursuits.

I’ve even got a new Pepperknit-dedicated Twitter account, where I will tweet site news and other things of interest from time to time. (I promise not to overwhelm your feed.)

So take a look around, make yourself at home, and get ready! I’ve got lots of fun things going on, a backlog of finished projects to write about, and a pretty blog I just want to hang around in all the time.
