Have you ever visited a place about which all you can really say is that it’s cute? Cute, that relatively condescending adjective. I have to admit it: That’s how I feel about Norway.

But then, I also identify as cute myself (I mean, aren’t I?), so I’m in conflict. And Norway probably outdoes even me for pretty.

Even though this dinner requires turning on the oven, it makes enough to serve us for several meals, is great eaten cold, and makes the most of veggies that are at their best in spring and summer. It is great as a “clean out the fridge” meal, but we often buy all the ingredients just in order to make it, it’s that tasty.

A festival of oysters! Last night friends and I went to a fundraiser for the New Amsterdam Market down near the former Fulton Fish Market. I was happy to support the market, and with an abundance of oysters (both raw and in cooked dishes), I excitedly bought us tickets…

True brilliance is fleeting, it turns out, because the Infinite Variety quilt exhibit, featuring the collection of Joanna Rose, was on display here in New York city for only six days. It was phenomenal, and I hope that she, and the American Folk Art Museum can work out getting it on display elsewhere.
