after a night of tugging and prodding

And a whole lot of swearing, I have this:

line?

Line is becoming less and less noticeable on my USMP. I’ll admit, I angled the camera in such a way that it’s less noticeable, too–and you know, once it’s on, people won’t be looking at it from down low (as in the last shot). They’ll be looking at it from above (I’m not that tall!).

I basically attacked the row with a crochet hook, pulling in order to get the ‘bump’ to move around and not be locked so tightly into its old place. The thing about this line is that if you touched the work on the back, you could locate the line immediately because the purls felt somehow bigger. So I decided that the backs of the bumps were locked and their immobility was the source of the problem. If I could move them around a little, I posited, it’d alleviate the problem. And once they were moved around, then I could probably block it in place in this new orientation. Seems to be working.

I’m still irritated and frustrated, because there’s still a line there, no matter what I like to think, but it’s far, far, far less noticeable. I even held the work up to the boy, showed him the side I’d tugged and the other, and asked what was different, and he said, ‘the line is still on the other side.’ So, that’s good.
