sleeve progress

I’m making great progress on the sleeve. I’m happy I didn’t do the extra 10 stitches, though I’m not sure it would have been a significant difference. I followed the pattern though–no alterations. There’s one short row/wrap that I sort of think was unnecessary, and is causing a little ‘pucker’ of sorts. I suppose it’ll block out, but I wish I’d noticed sooner, because I think not doing that last wrap would have fixed it. Oh well.

I’ve gotten the hang of Magic Loop. It’s fluid now.

I realized that I’m going to visit my parents this weekend (I keep thinking Columbus Day weekend is next weekend), and that I’d planned on having the Lopi Tote finished so that I could felt it in their washing machine. Um, oh well.

Responses to comments on my knitting breakthroughs:

Amy–Let us know when you give Magic Loop a try. I’m finding it less awkward than dpns, and the work feels somehow more “present” as I’m working on it. (Not trapped behind a cage of needles!)

Rachel: I’ve not tried the cabling without a cable needle yet, but I looked at Grumperina’s tutorial and will definitely use it the next time I have cables to do. I totally love the way you described it–patting yourself on the back. That’s exactly what I do, too.

Laura, I’m totally impressed that you taught yourself Magic Loop from one photo! I had a general idea from the picture, and probably would have figured it out if I’d bothered to think carefully about it, but watched the video on knittinghelp.com and that solidified it for me. And purling continental is awkward, but I’ve gotten used to it. Jaax hated it so much she’s become a combination knitter, where she twists her purls (which is a bit more like knitting) and then knits into the back of the stitches on knit rows. That’s too complicated for me. I feel like a more efficient knitter now–but like I said on your blog, you don’t seem to be losing time!

Gorgeous sleeve! The Magic Loop is the greatest thing EVER. I have heard people complain about all the adjusting of the needles, but I find that once you get in the groove, it can be done very fluidly. And I completely agree about being more present with the knitting than with dpns.

I love the colors – so autumnal! And after reading this I may just give the magic loop a try (I’ve been a fan of the 2 circs method so far).
