weekend away

This long weekend (yep, I had today off) I drove through the torrential downpours to get to Maryland, to visit my parents. Mom and I did an excessive amount of shopping, which was great. We also sat around knitting in the evenings. I worked on the sleeve of my USMP, which is nearly done, and she worked on a little cardigan she’s doing with some beautiful red manos. I don’t know why I didn’t take a picture, but oh well.
I taught her the felted join, and she raved about it almost as much as I have. She declared, “this has opened whole worlds to me.” I was so excited to be able to show her something that she’d never seen before.

My favorite purchases were two pairs of cute shoes at DSW. Hence, they were very cheap cute shoes:

click the photos for clear shots of the shoes; I had some issues sizing them down.

And, inspired by the minty combination of the provisional cast on yarn and the brown of my USMP, I got this corduroy blazer. You can’t quite tell in the shot, but I’m wearing a brown sweater under it. Awesome.

Knitting content? Oh, ok. Well, we went to the new yarn shop in Columbia, All About Yarn. I obviously do not need to buy any yarn, but I did get a needle gauge ‘doodad,’ as I called it to the woman who helped me find it. Mom got a ruler/gauge thingy, too. The place is really great–filled to the gills with yarn. I’d go so far as to say it’s better than Sophie’s, though lacking in character. What’s a little freaky is that I got home, read through my bloglines, and discovered that Lolly of Lollyknitting Around had been at All About Yarn this weekend, too. I get the sense she went on Saturday; I was there on Sunday. Small world.

Isn’t knitting a great way to bond with mom? My mom just took it up this year and it has been such a great thing to share. Glad you had a nice weekend!

P.S. I particularly like the brown shoes…I may have to wander down to DSW sometime soon.
