i want a penguin so i can dress it up
Have you all seen this? I could just die, it’s the cutest thing in the world. Cuter even than baby bootees.
The Penguin Jumper Project was getting folks to knit sweaters for penguins who’d suffered after an oil spill. But now I just want my own penguin so I can dress him up.

That is too cute! I want a penguin, too! Your Thanksgiving spread sounded delicious. So glad to hear you had a wonderful weekend. :-)
PRECIOUS!!
Sounds like you had a great Thanksgiving. And I now think we all need a penguin to dress up. Actually, I think I saw a knitting pattern to make toy penguins somewhere on the Net. Knitty? Not sure.
Yes, knitty has one! Pasha!
That is the cutest little thing!! Maybe we can start a “Penguins for Knitters” drive and all take a penguin under our wing. (get it, wing, ha ha ha)
Yeah, okay, I think this is my first comment to your blog and I have to make a total dork out of myself. Tee hee.
I welcome comments of all shapes and sizes. Especially ones with silly jokes!
omg that is SO cute!! ahhhh
Wait, is that for real? Why do penguins need sweaters? Does the oil spill prevent them from keeping warm? (If you’re going to go to the trouble of putting a sweater on an oil-covered penguin, wouldn’t it be better just to wash the oil off?)
Okay, now that I’m done with the skepticism, may I saw that that photo is one of the cutest I’ve ever seen?
Wow! Another oil spill?
A knitter conceived of making small wool jumpers for the ducks who were victimized by the oil spill created by the Exxon Valdez, in Alaska, years ago. I knitted about 30 of them. They are PERFECT for absorbing oil.
I’d still like a Penguin to dress up. Looks hipper than the stereotypical “tuxedo”.
Rachel, the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill,
was the worst disaster in the last century. CRUDE OIL cannot be washed off. The birds cannot swim or fly. In the case of the ducks, they sank and drowned, as the oil prohibited them from floating. Imagine someone pouring crude oil over you. Every pore in your body would suffocate.
Wool has the absolute best absorption rate. Knit a small piece and drop some oil on it. This is why you can wear it in very cold climates where there is limited water access, literally for up to six months without bathing.
I was estatic to join the knitter who came up with the idea. Thousands of birds were saved.
Sorry my first comment is so serious, but it’s important to know the reasons behind what on the surface, may not make sense.
