beachy goodness
I took enough yarn with me down the shore to knit an entire sweater. I told myself “you have one week: get it done.” I knew this was risky, given I would not have my (small but good) library of knitting books on hand as reference, as I was designing my first set-in sleeve. I knew i would have internet access and could easily read great tutorials on armscyes on knitty, and I could use the fantastic armscye calculator, created by my friend Elinor of Exercise Before Knitting’s genius husband. I knew if all else failed I could wing it and it would probably be okay. But instead . . .
Yeah, I didn’t knit a single stitch. Didn’t touch the yarn, didn’t look anything up. I jumped in upon my return and am cranking along—of course, I’m also freaking out about those armscyes. All the references and reading in the world can’t help me i don’t think. I just have to do it!

If it makes you feel any better it looks like what you did instead was a bunch of fun :)
Heh heh! Of course you didn’t knit a stitch – the call of The Shore beckoned! Looks like you had a great time :)
Don’t freak out about the armscyes – just do it, but be a little bit prepared to tear things out a bit :)
Seaside Park —- ahhhh, fond memories of Seaside Park. DH’s family had a house on “M” Street. Our very first “date” was to Seaside Park.
Cute photo of the crab —– yum, DINNER!
Ah well, there’s plenty of time for knitting! I LOVE the second photo – is it a “frame” that you got or did you somehow do it yourself?
I do the exact same thing when I go on holiday- tell myself that I’ll ge tall this knitting done, and then barely touch it. Looks like you had a blast!!
great photos! the first jumpity photo makes me smile :) super cute poses!
also, did you get some maruca’s? i need to live vicariously through you!!!
ahh looks like so much fun!!! and i don’t blame you on the armscyes… i “get it” but I don’t get it at the same time… I’ll be over here cheering you on!! (and when you do get it, prob gonna ask you for help ;-))
Sometimes, I think it’s very important to put down the knitting and just get out and jumpity. It looks like you had an awesome time at the beach – good luck with the arm scyes (they scare the snot out of me, too).
The road to hell…in this case I’d say that you made the right choice–you can knit any old time:)
Oh geez! I, too, have been completely freaking out about armscythes this last week. Playing with numbers in Elinor’s calculator has been my savior.
I think you week was better spent not knitting and designing, personally. But youk now, that’s just me.
Oooh, I’m glad the calculator’s been helpful! I use it all the time now. Aaron’s working on a program that draws schematics for you. Now THAT will be useful.
Also, it’s much better to enjoy the vacation than to return with a finished sweater! I never get any good knitting done on vacation. Good luck with the math now that you’re back.
I think you did well to just enjoy your vacation – great pics! The knitting will always be there!
But at least you had great shore week….
