tootsie too!
After a long drought, I was a bit of a crafting fool in Singapore, huh? Because here’s another FO (and all were knit on US 5, the only size needle I brought!). I should space them out or something, but I’ve waited long enough to blog about this finished object (two whole days)!
I have always had a thing for turtles. In fact, I had a pet turtle, Gus, in college. (He’s buried on campus.) In elementary school, I made a little clay turtle for my mom who we named Tootsie; she’s in storage in Maryland while my parents are overseas. So naturally, this second handmade turtle should be named the Tootsie II.
Let’s hope she isn’t carnivorous.
Tootsie II
Pattern: Sheldon (knitty; rav)
Yarn: Harvest Pure Wool in green and khaki
Skeins: 2 of each color
Needles: Addi Turbo US 5
Started: Friday, August 1
Finished: Saturday, August 2
Notes: I knit the body and top of the shell on my last day in Singapore; the rest I knit in the air flying from Singapore to Korea. The couple sitting next to me were delighted by her (ps, she’s enormous). (FO shots were taken in the Inch’on South Korea airport.) I really hated knitting it; there has to be a more elegant way for the turtle to be assembled (mostly the shell was a pain in the ass—three layers, none effortless matched up). It’s a pretty cute FO, though, so I hope my friend’s baby likes her. She liked the airport quite a bit.

Tootsie II: The international turtle of mystery
i love her big head!
i think it’s the same with all knitted toys. god, so hard to put together even when they’re “easy”! this one’s cute though. sometimes cuteness wins out.
I agree, the three layer shell seemed pretty fiddly, but the idea of the removable shell is so worth it! She’s such a scrumptious green I wanna add her to a martini and eat her up!
The shell looks awesome. I can’t believe you can just whip something like that up. Much envy.
Aw, he’s so adorable!! Great job.
I wonder how many of us have left their deceased turtles behind on their college campus’? I had one of those too. He was about the size of a half dollar coin.
Tootsie II is so cute! Love the green shades you chose. The shell was a bit fiddly to put together but well worth it. That was the first time I’d done the applied i-cord. Very cool.
your version of sheldon is so cute! i’ve been wanting to make one for myself for awhile as well.
that is one cool knitted creature. gorgeous pictures too
I love that last photo! So adorable.
well, isn’t he a cutie~
Oh I love love LOVE your turtle! How CUTE!!
Someone will be getting this little guy for Christmas — so cute!
So adorable! The wee one will love it – lots of little legs for little hands to wrap around!
I made Sheldon last winter all in shades of green – I love the way you’ve used the white for his shell!
I love Tootsie 2.
So cute!!!!! You’re on a knitted animal roll!
Wow, you really were productive in Singapore!!! I love the turtle and the monkey. And the finished sweater is great. So flattering, and interesting to knit, I bet.
Sheldon really is a complete PITA to knit and put together, but totally worth it, soooo cute.
so cute !
So cute! I, too, have a major thing for turtles.
I’ve seen that turtle pattern lots of time and was that tempted by it, even though I thought it was cute. Yours just seems so sweet. I think I need to knit one. That settles it, there is no way I can go back to work next week. I just have too many unfinished projects!…I’m sure my students will understand.
Aw! *Who’s* the widdle turtle? Who? Who? Who?
*You’re* the widdle turtle!!!! *You* are! Yes *you*!
(*cough* Please excuse the very pregnant rambling. It’s completely adorable.)
Carniverous or yarniverous??
hee hee
I have a thing for turtles too! (even have a tiny turtle tattoo on my back) Yours is adorable. I really want to make one of these but I suck at putting together stuffed animals/toys….
I completely agree about the inelegant assembly. Also, did your icord edging have a tendency to curl upward? Mine did, and no amount of adjusting my technique seemed to make a difference.
Still, yours is just another example of the fact that this PITA pattern yields a truly adorable result.
I’ve really been enjoying reading your mom’s blog (makes me homesick) and seeing that you’ve been visiting Singapore pretty regularly – I’M SO JEALOUS!!!
Love your blog! And I love the little turtle! Cute!
