I spent this past Friday holed up in large uncomfortable rooms performing my civic responsibility: I was at jury duty! Lucky me, I did not get chosen for a jury, but the day was not a total waste—I used it to make not one, but two, pairs of fingerless mitts!
This past weekend was opening weekend for the NFL, and for the first time in months I found myself drawn to the couch, yarn in hand. This summer was just too hot, too muggy, and too busy to want to do any knitting/crocheting at all. But there’s just something about the sound of helmets crashing on helmets and those random shouts of the count that make me feel like picking up yarn again. The weather even cooperated—Sunday was cool and rainy, the perfect weather for staying on the couch. Plus, my Eagles (and my Redskins—yes, I can divide my loyalty between two teams in the same division, much to my boyfriend’s indignance) were playing, so I had a reason to keep an eye on the TV.

The Potholder Swap 2010 is in full swing—what fun potholders are you making? I can’t wait to receive mine from the swap, and making the ones I’ll contribute has been a lot of fun, too. I have even tried my pattern out, and they function pretty darn well!
It’s no secret ’round these parts how much I adore Valentine’s Day. It’s a weird thing—I guess about 10 or so years ago, I just decided to embrace the holiday and make it mine. I mean, sure, it’s overcommercialized and generally a disgusting thing that Hallmark has thrust upon us, but it’s also so cheesy and stupid and can be a lot of fun. I take it as a holiday to tell my friends and family how much I love them—and I usually do it with sugar.
