hermione’s sweater

So, have you seen the latest Harry Potter? I promise, no spoilers here, just some knitting talk. I saw it this evening, and I am now inspired to knit my own version of Hermione’s Icelandic sweater. I’d seen this style of sweater before, of course, but something about the white background made me look at this kind of sweater in a new way. The gauge is small, and I’m already thinking about looking for yarn. I feel certain it’d be wrong to save the photos I’ve found online and post them here, so instead I’ll make you click. So far, the only images of the sweater I can find show it under a jacket, but we’ve got the long shot (featuring Ron and Harry), where the little detail along the bottom edge is visible, and a close-up where the neck pattern is more clear. I love it! I’m getting out the graph paper immediately!

striped sock!

Look, I didn’t completely forget. I bought this yarn with Pam back in April, and I think not too long after that I cast on for these. I truly do not remember, and for some reason I didn’t blog about it or make any notes whatsoever. I’m going to have to count the stitches around the toe to figure out what the heck I did when I go to make the second sock!

like a ninja!

So, I know I’m a fast knitter. I’ve always been speedy, but my time knitting socks on the bus has really gotten me in an amazing groove of late. I knit a whole pair of socks in one week and then another single sock in the next two/three days. I’m nearly done with yet another sock (not a match to the aforementioned one), which is looking as if it’ll be a kneesock (yay!).

But it was all driven home to me today, when two complete strangers took the time to say something. On the bus to work this morning, a woman leaned over and said, “You are SO FAST! I’ve been watching you . . . just . . . mesmerized.”
