weekend wrapup. it’s not all pretty.

I mentioned in my last post that my boyfriend and I drove down to Maryland for a brief visit this weekend. Ostensibly we were going to the retirement party of our old high school track coach, but we managed to squeeze in a baby shower for a friend and some quality time with each of our families. (Yes, the boy and I went to high school together, though we were not technically a couple in high school; this is our 10th year together.)

day trip to cape may

The boy and I decided to rent a car for our long weekend and play around a bit. Originally we’d thought about going away for a few days, but that fell through, so we kept the car reservation and chose to do some day trips. (We got a brand-new Saturn! Nifty.)

This afternoon, we decided to check out Cape May, NJ. It was about a 1.5-hour drive, and we were there for maybe 2 hours.

kiri: i need some help

Let me start my first real post about knitting Kiri with a little “uh, wow, harder than I thought” plug for lace. Despite all the warnings about not using Addi Turbos for lace, they’re all I have on hand, so I sat down and gave it a whirl. No. That will not work. It was beyond frustrating. I dug around and found some Clover size 4 circulars (16″ tho; not large enough), so I decided to try them. Not sharp enough.

i d-d-d-d-did it!

I kind of can’t believe it. I finished a pair of socks. First time ever! An Olympic-sized challenge that, when push came to shove, proved much easier to complete than I’d thought. With the strict deadline, however, it wasn’t hard to continue on with the second sock. (Ok, I had a little bit ofsecond sock syndrome , but all in all it was fairly minor.) We’ll see how I fare with no gold medal* hanging out in front of me like a carrot for future socks, though. (What? did I just say “future socks”? Why yes, I believe I did. I don’t think I’ll ever be as devoted to socks as some, but there’s no reason to avoid them any longer.)
